Links from most recipe sites work. If a site won't load, copy the recipe text off the page and paste it here instead — that always works.

AI writes a new recipe to match — you'll review it and can edit anything before saving.
Recipe catalog

Recipes from Wikibooks Cookbook and independent food bloggers — public or credited, and freely reusable. Search or filter to narrow it down, pick as many as you like, nothing's added until you tap the button below. Diet tags are a search aid, not verified — always check the ingredients yourself. Tags like diabetic and heart-healthy aren't medical advice; talk to your doctor or a dietitian about what fits your plan.

Pin it next to your address bar — one click on a recipe page saves it straight to your recipe box, no review step. It needs a token to know it's you; generate one below and paste it into the extension the first time. See what it does with your data in the privacy policy.

          Android — share to app

Once you've added What's for Dinner to your home screen, it shows up as an option when you tap Share from a recipe page or a social app — no extra setup needed.

          iPhone — bookmarklet

iOS doesn't let web apps add themselves to the native Share Sheet, so this is the closest equivalent: a bookmark that sends the current page here. Add any bookmark, then edit its address to the text below.

          About What's for Dinner

What's for Dinner is a household dinner-planning board. It plans your calendar, builds your grocery list from what's planned, and keeps a shared recipe box — so "what's for dinner" stops being a nightly negotiation.

          What it does
          • Calendar — pick a dinner for each night, or let it fill/shuffle a whole month for you. Tap a planned dinner's name to open that recipe.
          • Grocery list — builds itself from whatever's on the calendar for today, this week, or this month. Check off what you already have and it won't ask for it again.
          • Pantry — track what's on hand as a simple in-stock toggle, a level (for things like spices and oils), or a count (for eggs, paper towels) that restocks itself when you check it off the grocery list.
          • Recipe box — save recipes with photos, ingredients, and step-by-step instructions, tag them by diet and cuisine style, and filter by either.
          • Suggest / Scan / Import — generate a new recipe by diet + style (optionally using what's in your pantry), snap a photo of a recipe, or paste a link.
          • Save from anywhere — a Chrome extension, Android's share sheet, or an iPhone bookmarklet send a recipe straight into your box from wherever you found it. Set them up under Browser & share tools in your Account page. An iPhone app that adds DinnerCal right to the share sheet is coming soon.
          • Family — link accounts to share one grocery list and pantry, live.
          • Share — send a recipe, a month's plan, or a grocery list to someone else, or invite them to create their own account.
          • Account — tap your name to add contact info and change your password.
          About the starter recipes

The 30 starter recipes in your Recipe box came from real food bloggers and chefs, not a stock photo API. We don't copy their photos — those are the creator's own work, and reusing them without permission isn't something we're willing to do. What we do instead is name the author or site and link straight to the original post, right at the end of the recipe, so you can see where it came from and the person who wrote it gets the visit. Want a photo on one of these? Open it and add your own from the editor, same as any recipe you create yourself.

          Getting started
          1. 1Add a few dinners to your Recipe box — tap + Add, or try ✨ Suggest a recipe if you're starting from scratch.
          2. 2Go to Calendar and tap any day to assign a dinner, or tap Fill empty nights to plan the whole month at once.
          3. 3Check the Grocery List tab — it's already built from what you planned.
          4. 4Add staples to your Pantry so the grocery list stops asking for things you already have.
Questions or something feels broken? Ask whoever invited you, or send feedback their way.
